WAREHOUSE CONVERSION REMODELING INTO TWO APARTMENTS IN PATRAS
In the Upper City of Patras, at the ground floor of a block of flats built in the 1960s, we designed two apartments where an old warehouse used to be. We decided to divide the oblong floor plan into two equal parts, so that both of the new apartments would have access to the garden. At the entrance of the apartments we created an interior patio, extending the atrium toward the main space. Each apartment is arranged on two levels, to gain more usable square meters. The ground floor includes the living room, the kitchen, the bathroom and a laundry closet, while the bedroom is on the second level.
We designed the wall between the apartments in a way that it combines the existing building materials with the new uses by creating recesses of different styles on each level. The details of the staircase, the thin slab of the attic, the linear railings, and the dark individual surfaces, they all complete the apartment’s character. Τhe hammock hanging in the attic of apartment C3 and the balcony dynamically protruding toward the garden in apartment C2 offer the owners a view of the Gulf of Patras.
